The Brief

Standard Bank, one of South Africa's oldest and most prominent financial institutions, needed a campaign that communicated a very human truth about business and innovation: that great ideas don't arrive on schedule. The campaign premise, Good Ideas Don't Keep Office Hours, required a creative execution that brought this to life in a way that was warm, relatable and memorable rather than corporate and predictable.

The Execution

A television commercial following a Standard Bank employee in the middle of a weekend cricket match when inspiration strikes. The idea can't wait. It needs to be captured immediately. What follows is a series of comical physical moments as he attempts to write down his thoughts mid-game, his gestures and movements causing increasingly chaotic consequences around him on the pitch. The humour was grounded in a truth every working person recognises: the best ideas arrive at the worst possible moment. The cricket setting gave the piece an unmistakably South African character, and the physical comedy made the brand message land without ever feeling like a lecture.

The OUTCOME

The commercial became one of Standard Bank's standout campaign executions, strongly reinforcing the Good Ideas Don't Keep Office Hours platform and cementing it as a memorable brand idea in the South African market.
