The Brief

Pernod Ricard needed a custom packaging design to launch the Absolut Grapefruit Edition in South Africa. The packaging had to do more than protect the bottle. It needed to generate genuine excitement, earn media coverage without paid placement, and give influencers, VIPs and high-value customers something worth sharing. In a category full of gift packs and premium boxes, the brief was to create something that felt more like an object than packaging.

The Execution

The Absolut bottle was housed inside a delicate, architectural metal cage frame, with clean horizontal shelves and fine vertical rods giving it the feel of a sculptural display piece rather than a box to be discarded. A single iridescent butterfly was positioned on the structure, adding an organic, unexpected detail that nodded to the lightness and freshness of the grapefruit flavour.

The result sat somewhere between packaging and art object. Something you'd keep on a shelf long after the bottle was empty. Photographed in lifestyle settings, it was distributed to influencers, media and key trade customers as a launch activation piece.

The Outcome

The packaging generated strong organic social media traction and trade excitement. Pernod Ricard's response was unambiguous: they tripled their original order of custom packs and subsequently placed the packaging on retail shelves as a limited product offering.
