The Brief

Pernod Ricard needed a special packaging piece to mark National Tequila Day for the Olmeca brand. The brief was to create something that felt celebratory, brand-relevant and genuinely memorable, a gift pack that went beyond a box and became an experience in itself for the recipient.


The Execution

The agave plant, the source of all tequila and central to Olmeca's heritage, became the structural concept for the packaging. The outer pack was designed in the form of an agave drop, richly decorated with Aztec-inspired geometric illustration in Olmeca's signature teal and gold. When opened, the leaves of the pack fell outward and spread dramatically, mimicking the natural form of the agave plant in full bloom and revealing the Olmeca Silver and Gold tequila bottles nestled at the centre.


Cocktail recipes were printed across the unfolding leaves, turning the unwrapping itself into part of the brand experience. The result was a piece that functioned simultaneously as packaging, brand storytelling and keepsake object.

The Outcome

The pack was so well received that Olmeca Tequila named it Campaign of the Year globally for the brand, a recognition that placed this South African creative execution above all other markets in the Pernod Ricard network for that year.
